A Turing machine is a math concept that show that a few simple rules can be used to solve any computable computation. It is the basis for all of today's computers. My goal in building this project was to create a machine that embodied the classic look and feel of the machine presented in Alan Turings 1937 paper on computable numbers. Found this a few days after attending lectures on programming a (theoretical) Turing? machine. There's a certain beauty to the concept and this design is pretty much perfect. To all the "Does it run Crysis" jokes - yes, it can, since if you can bring a problem down to a finite number of operations, a TM will do it. Eventually. Probably faster if you apply a longer character list and tape. The second should be infinite, just to be safe. And you'd have one frame per month. Maybe..

We did the project over the course of half a semester, i.e. about 2 months. We used a Mindstorms 2 educational package consisting of a standard Mindstorms 2 set and another box of additional sensors etc.. Regarding blank symbols, we can use an arbitrary number of bits (LEGO blocks) to encode each cell. Using a cell-size of two bits, we can choose that the blank symbol is encoded by 00, and true is 01,? false 10 and still have 11? available as additional data.

How long did this project take and how much did it cost? I have to? talk to a lot of laymans when explaining complexity theory and this is just a fantastic way to begin conceptualizing an otherwise theoretical model. Also, did you implement the blank symbol by representing it as being a lego that is neither in the 1 or 0 state (so in the middle of the row and therefore setting of both sensors) because if so that would allow for a lot more possibilities (as otherwise its just an LBA).

Define an even number? Where does it say you HAVE to be able to divide by an even number? It doesnt. I found more on wikipedia: An even number is an integer which is a multiple of two. If it is divided by two the result is another integer. Zero is an even number because zero multiplied by two is zero. The next four bigger even numbers are two, four, six,? and eight.

From what you are saying you should be able to divide an odd number by zero, and the last functional decimal place of that number is going to be a five. Not quite... there are some effects on the bass that I don't think he's using here. But yes, otherwise... a band like this? pretty much has to play it the same. They're only a 3 piece, and the composition is extremely strict. Any improvisation would lead to errors. I play in a similar band, and, all though you don't hear it, there are changes happening very quickly - every 4 or 8 bars - that you must keep on top of.

This is a theoretical machine, beginning with the fact that it has an infinite tape. It was devised by Alan Turing in order to deal with formal languages and computability problems. It is useful because of its extreme simplicity. Now imagine that the tape has symbols (eg, letter, numbers, asterisks, or anything else) written on it. All a Turing machine can do is look at one symbol at a time, then write something else on top of it, then move left or right. It's? that's simple.

This isn't the standard model of a Turing Machine. The directions the standard turing machine can only move {left or right}, and MUST rewrite on the cell whether? if it is the same symbol it originally had! This is a variation of the Turing Machine which the standard model can do. You should give at least the formal definition :). Otherwise nice job.

@SnakePlisskenPMW According to Church-Turing Thesis it is impossible to increase computational power of Universal Turing Machine, which is belived to be able to compute anything computable. You can only make 3 things: 1. Make tape longer, so machine? can store more data 2. Make machine faster by, for example, adjusting minimal repeater delays 3. Make machine more compact by, for example implementing smaller Universal Machine But you CAN'T give it more computational power
