People have no respect. I am in the last part of my senior year in high school and at night I attend fire academy. No senior trip for me, or band trip, or even project graduation. When I show up at school with my uniform on I get made fun of while I try and get in as much food as I can cuz I wont have supper. I get home at 1 a.m. and get up at 5 for school and do it all again. BUT im glad I do it.? There is no other thing I could ever see myself doing. I love it.

and has the proper credentials to skip the recruit school and go directly onto a truck. However on the opposite side some larger departments frown upon you if you have any kind of previous experience. Just depends on the dept. Best way to? know all this stuff is go talk to some of the guys on the dept your looking at joining. As for the training, if you look at a volunteer course, it can be a couple nights a week for several months. For a recruit school you're looking at 10-20 weeks.

Both of these guys are correct, however there are some exceptions. The hiring process usually takes anywhere between 3 months up to a full year or as in the case of FDNY up to 4 years. That all depends on how quickly the dept. processes applicants and fills up recruit classes and where you are placed on the hiring list. Always check to see if there are any ways that you can bypass recruit school. Some smaller departments allow a firefighter who is? already certified (continued)

need to get your state certificates as well as complete fire training through cyfair, lonestar, or wharton jr college then apply with HFD, and go through the academy,? then you'll be in. It take a lot but if you just want to do volley, I would recommend just finding your closest fire station and applying and talking to an officer at the station to find out what you need to volunteer with them.

Then most stations will train you in house so you? can get your minimum number of hours of training to ride the truck as well as pass 3 phases of physical testing, NIMS through FEMA, and a written exam. Well basically if you only want to be a volley (and only a volley), you need to find the firehouse that is in your district. I'm out in Katy and we have 7 fire stations in my area but the one I'm in the has AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) is Westlake VFD off Fry Rd. Now that's not to say you can't volley anywhere else but you would have to stay at? the station at night for at least 4 shifts a month. Most volley stations, you don't need any certs or anything to apply. Just go and

I agree with you he is a 39 year old fuck up who doesn't know half the shit firefighters go through and see.I am 18 and just got my diploma today plan on getting? into tip-top shape then become a volunteer ff then paid one day hopefully.Just wearing the gear alone in 97 degree weather is a killer for most average people and there basically fucked if they have to do a PAT but you got to start somewhere and if you fail hopefully you will go through training once a week.

What happens when you get to a door you can't knock down or there's a wooden beam too heavy for you to lift? Any job that requires max strength (ie the ability to carry an extremely heavy weight) will always have a man that is stronger. It's just genetics. This video was from back in the early to mid 1980's. The gear wasn't the best and the tactics weren't as great as they are in today's fire department. But they got it done.? A lot has changed since this video was made. I would challenge you to provide me with another countries fire department which could match what we have in today's U.S fire service.
