Canon's are always in style and never loose value. I have an AE1, I used in my job in the Army and still use. I have the Rebel T1, the OES D50, A few ggod lens, filters, and I am good to go. Buy the body and good lenses (not kit) You can always use it. I will get another digital in about 3 yrs. Am getting llights, other support equipment, studio,? etc stuff. Buidl your equipment slowly. Invest in good lenses. They will change..AE1 has bayonet mounts.

They have the same sensor mate. Lens would directly affect the image quality. 7D will always have the better body and faster burst rate though. That being said there's? not a whole lot of difference between the 1.2 and the 1.8 either besides price.

.... higher FPS for burst mode is going to be mainly good for sports... if its simply just people moving around then you should not be having? to fire a burst mode shot and higher FPS would not be anything great... even 5 fps will net you what you need. What you should be adjusting is your shutter speed if your just trying to capture people moving at events. ..... you should also be shooting raw.

I already have me a decent lens to go with my current body. Most of the time I shoot in Jpegs except for when I do photoshoots. I go to a lot of conventions covering their events and a lot of the time people will be doing a lot? of moving around and sometimes I need the faster fps.

invest in a good lens rather than a new body. If your shooting in RAW and other correct settings the 7D will not get 8fps. Just remember list of most important to least important Photographer>Lens>Body. You will be wasting your money? on the 7D. If you really must get a new body then get the 60D.

So perhaps someone could help me, I currently have the T2i but pretty soon I'm about to make an investment for another camera. I've been thinking a lot about the 7D and I really like it for it's 8fps, but after seeing more and more reviews I'm starting to get nervous about the purchase... I want a good entry level professional camera and the 7D is within my price range unlike the 5D which costs an arm, and a leg. Suggestions?... Save, or? make the jump for the 7D?

Probably not 2-3 years, its been out for 3 years now so there will be? something new soon. But you have to ask yourself if its worth the wait and the high price when launched. What will the new model offer? More pixels (18 should be enough though), more AF-points, dual card slot, better audio support while filming, thats about it. I'll get a barely used (6 months) next week. 300 euros off the retail price. Im sure i wont regret that even when a new model comes out.

It shoots a maximum of 29:59 (29 minutes, 59 seconds). Once you reach that time, if you're watching the camera close, you'll probably lose a maximum of about 3 seconds. Honestly, not bad at all.? Make sure you have plenty of memory if you're shooting HD! You'll need almost 256gb of memory for 5 hours...

Lenses are lenses. Just because one company makes a lense doesn't mean it 'won't work' as well with other? mounts. It's a give and take in camera work. A Nikkor lens might look amazing (yes, on a canon body) and sell at a great price, but I might have to give up autofocus to get those pluses. There are converters that you can get that might be able to get some of those features back too. Just because you want 100% doesn't mean it'll be valuable to you. Make it work for what you're doing.

I don't want to do anyone a disservice my making this appear "easy". Finding the right perch, getting the bird to land on the perch at the right spot, placement of the perch....etc...becom es very tedious. I experimented with a few different perches after this video. The results can be seen on my website. The contraption on the flash is called a Better Beamer.

Great setup and technique man ! I have slide window glass with one-sided translucent mirror and a grill with a water tray attached at my apartment window. The birds get tricked at the mirror esp. during mating season and also for water.? I get to see many birds, even hummingbirds just a foot away. How bout a one side translucent mirror glass to mask the 7D with a 50mm f1.8 and effectively it will give 1.5 f-stop less worth light in a bright environment sans flash with an RF remote trigger.

First thing- but a sign up to preclude people from putting flyers in there...etc. I HATE that anyway but when it endangers a birds' nest it's even more absurd. Give them about 20 feet and they'll be fine. The parents will watch you for several minutes before flying food in to? the babies, but they will be ok with it if you keep that distance. Put a perch up in front of the mailbox. They like this- it gives them a chance to have a final look around before they hope in to feed their young. Enjoy!

I just bought the canon 7d with 15-85 lens last Friday and it's awesome, much better camera then nikons d7000 IMO. Not dissing nikon cuz it's an awesome camera too! but you can't compare these 2? cameras and the canon is more for semi pro to professional use while the nikon is suited more for a beginner to professional use. Plus the canon has a better AF system then the d7000's.

You know what I just don't get it. Just as many photographers resisted the change from film to digital... an SLR design like this? makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why cover a sensor that can show you your image up with a mirror you have to then look thru a little viewfinder to see around... and move it out of the way mechanically to make the shot. DSLR's in five years will be dinosaurs... people will laugh if you have one. No live view NO sale. But hey go ahead and lug that crap around

Just need a slate to sync sound with picture....thats it....& no ref sound is required. Actually, the mic on the cam/PCM D50 isn't worth (the recorder can be anything)....so your sample rate and bit depth won't be affected but the quality of recording will be substandard because your acquisition is below par i.e. bad input will always be bad output even at 24bit/48khz. So....the solution is to get a better mic to get a better input...use shotgun mics for? film stuff...& record at 12-20dbss...:)

I was curious about the? same thing. I figured the mic on the cam might not be as good as the recorder, but the recorder sound "pickup distance" isn't that much better. Why not use the camera's built-in mic sound as a reference and sync it with the recorder in post? Will the sample rate be affected some how, is the sound easier to read with better quality, or is it just preference?

I made this passive attenuator and it works very well with my Zoom H4n and Zoom H1 audio recorders and my Canon 5D's. I recalled both on the Canon and also the recorders that way I have a backup? audio recording and it's also easier to synchronise the audio when editing the video.

I challenge you to find any camera? that has excellent sound recording qualities. Almost every camera I have ever owned I have had to add different mics to it in order to get the best sound.

Any up to date Non Linear editor with support for GPU acceleration will be fine. Adobe, and Apple probably have the? largest user base. Apart from that Grassvalley, Sony, Ulead and many more offer various professional and consumer NLE at different price points.

Great point, but clever software engineers figured that out and most video editing software with down sample the audio clip to your video sequence setting and keep it all synced. Adobe Premiere does that. Now you may ask, why you need to record at 96KHz sampling rate if it gets down sampled right? Because high sampling rate will produce way better recording just like a DVD movie? appears better than a VCD movie on a normal TV screen, even though VCD resolution is enough.

You might be overlooking what you have studied in your sound engineering course. That sampling rate means nothing unless you also talk about the quality of the preamp and A/D converter of the recorder. Can you compare the performance of a passenger and a sports car, both having 6 cylinder? engines? Similarly the audio circuit in 5D is no match even for an entry level audio recorder.

LOL...the 5D records at 48k, 16 bit...that is BETTER than CD quality, just so you know. If you set up a Lav mic properly, with good levels to the 5D, you can get an excellent audio recording. Then, bring? it into your audio software for mixing and the quality can't be beaten. I'm a pro sound engineer who also shoots documentaries and I've found this to be the most foolproof and solid way to get audio from the 5D (and it's already in sync).

Yes, getting close to the sound source is always desirable to reduce ambient noise. We all love to indulge in the shotgun boom luxury if we have sufficient budget to hire a grip boy. But when we shoot alone, then mounting the mic on the camera hotshoe becomes our most common choice. Lastly, booming or not, whichever may be your micing setup, you have to use an external recorder with 5D to get? the best audio.

You have missed the point, the 5D sound recorder is very low quality, even compared to any entry level recorder like Zoom H4n. When I use my wireless lav. I still hook the wireless receiver output to my Sony or Marantz recorder and feed? the line output of the recorders to 5D through an attenuator.
